There is also Sabo technology in the LiCoRD (Linear Controlled Rocking Device) project which won the patent section of the 2021 Tuscany Innovation Award. LiCoRD is an anti-seismic device that aims to safeguard historic buildings and protect them in the event of an earthquake so as to give them a future. The idea was born in 2017 as a potential device designed by Livith SpA, a company based in Montespertoli that deals with safety engineering. After a few years of work, the company began collaboration with our production plant in Vicchio in Mugello, where Sabo technicians studied a specific shock absorber optimized to dissipate the seismic energy induced by the walls. After the excellent results in the tests, Livith then prepared the first real samples and started the certification procedure for the CE marking.
In practice, the Sabo shock absorbers are inserted in groups of three in large cylinders which are subsequently placed in the perimeter walls and, in the event of seismic shocks, perform a damping function. Much of the technology used is covered by patents and trade secrets.
LiCoRD combines the tradition of historical anti-seismic chains with the innovation of heat sinks. One of the main strengths of the device is the low visual and structural impact, and therefore the minimal invasiveness that respects the aesthetics but also the structural authenticity of the existing building. A strong innovative point of the device is also the monitoring system put in place thanks to the collaboration with the company SYEL which allows to evaluate the continuous efficiency of the intervention.
We are proud to collaborate with our knowledge on projects like this one, which can make a concrete contribution to protecting the historical and artistic heritage of our country.
