The largest section of the Gebze-Orhangazi-Izmir Highway Project, and the world’s fourth longest suspension bridge with the largest central span, the Osman Gazi Bridge, was opened to traffic on Thursday with a ceremony. The 433-kilometer-long motorway in the project is expected to provide a direct connection from Istanbul and its surrounding provinces to the third and fourth largest cities in Turkey, Izmir and Bursa respectively. The motorway crosses through the bridge in the Izmit province, southeast of Istanbul.
“This bridge is very important for us – Massimo Nuti explains, CEO of Roberto Nuti Spa – , Bursa , where we have the seat of Sabo Suspension System, is located on the highway connecting Izmir to Istanbul, so also for our drivers the savings in terms of time will be substantial”.
The bridge was completed by the Italian Astaldi Group and to celebrate the opening the turkish motorcyclist Kenan Sofuoglu established another incredible speed record. The pilot brought his Kawasaki H2R turbo to reach 400 km/h in just 26″, using special tires and special clothing.
